RIDING COL DU FORCLAZ

Col du Forclaz

Two days before I had climbed the Col du Forclaz. It is about 2 hours north (by car) of Alpe d'Huez around Lake Annecy. It is a shorter but steeper climb. It is a Cat. 1 climb and was last used in the 2004 TdF. It was the second to last climb on the stage where Lance just nipped Kloden at the line. On this climb there are two different full kilometers with between 11-12% grades. The signs on the road claim a 13% grade. This climb took me 46 minutes but there were steeper sections than Alpe d'Huez. I would still rate Alpe d'Huez harder because of the length. Below is the profile of Col du Forclaz. Note the amount of red (steeper than 10%).
One more picture of me on Alpe d'Huez. This is just as I enter the town of Alpe d'Huez at the top.
