FEELS LIKE FALL WEATHER

Today started out cool and damp and feeling like fall. Meghan asked me to walk with her today to school and so I took the opportunity for some mom/daughter bonding. She has found a kitty on her walk. I know she has been missing her own kitty, Casey.
On Tuesday she came home for lunch and forgot her key to get into our locked building. The intercom to our apartment had not been fixed so she walked toward the Shenks (the other American family from Batesville). She could not find their house so she walked back toward school and went to her new friend, Solene's house. Starting to get worried by this point, I began making phone calls when she didn't arrive by the expected time. Luckily Solene goes home for lunch and was home with her mom, Anne-Elisabeth, who then called me. I was proud of Meghan that she figured out what to do!
After arriving back after the walk to school, my consisted of studying my French, ironing, cleaning, laundry, French lesson, and cooking. So yes I do have chores to do, it's not all play!
Dave and I took a walk after dinner to have some couple time.It was nice to just walk and talk and see beautiful Vannes. At times, it gets a little close with all three of us in the apartment.
The leaves are starting to turn and the ivy is now starting to turn a crimson color. Can't wait to see more color.
On the walk home I passed this Affaires Maritime building. My French tutor said it is where you go for licenses and other paper work for boat owners. Just thought is was a beautiful building, like many others here in Vannes.
Yes, Dave even gets to "fix" things here in our flat. Someone recently asked him what he missed from back home. Dave answered, "my Southstars bike group and tinkering in my work shop." He got his chance to use a tool last night. Since many of the French take baths instead of showers, the tub had not been caulked recently. He spent about an hour taking off the old caulk and he recaulked the tub so now when we take our SHOWER we won't have to worry about leakes. By the way, we had to go buy a shower curtain and rod when we arrived. The tub had a shower fixture but no curtain. Not sure how they would have taken a shower without a curtain.

Dave - I still remember my Dad's hard learned advice that you have to fill the tub with water before you caulk. Hope you didn't have to discover that one the hard way.

I'm reading your blog every day, even though I have not commented in quite a while. I have tennis elbow in both elbows and using the keyboard for any length of time is not a pleasant experience. How well you know once I start typing or talking, I don't know when to stop. ;)

I think I told you Casey must be missing her daily interactions with you as her family. On the days Denice works, Casey occasionally comes over for a sunny, warm late afternoon nap in one of our porch cushioned chairs. I'm hoping one day your kitty will let me get close enough to hold &/or pet her.

Oh, for fall weather to begin. With all the hurricanes hitting or affecting the Southern States of the USA, Indiana's climate is warm-to-hot, very damp/sticky, hard to breathe humid weather.

It was so humid one afternoon last week we had a fogged up window pane with the air conditioned air on the inside and the humidity on the outside.

We haven't had any leaves turning colors yet. Any leaves on the ground are produced by the many wind storms and or thunderstorms.

Meghan, the squirrels are harvesting your yards and the neighborhood for winter. Which means I'm chasing CHASE by MYSELF to get her back to our front yard, tethered or within the privacy fenced back yard.

Between the squirrels barking and CHASE barking to be let outside to chase the squirrels, I'm spending an exorbitant amount of time experiencing YOUR excellent ability chasing and catching CHASE, getting her back to our yard. Meghan, have I ever expressed my appreciation for you helping with this yearly autumn activity?

If not, I can't tell you how thankful I am for your willingness every year helping keep CHASE safely corralled in our yards as she points, hunts and attempts to catch squirrels. Thank you Meghan, with my whole heart.

From your daily blog entry's I sense it is much easier to spend time together as a family. Unlike daily Urban life in America where being together as a family means carving out scheduled days, appointed times or special events.

Oh, I know you all made certain you enjoyed family time together in America. It just feels like from your blogs you have more opportunities as a family to spend time together.

Bicycle trails close enough to safely bike early every morning or evening. Nature walks (a.k.a. exercising,:) in America,)walking to school, instead of carpools or interminable daily bus routes to and from school.

Even your Sunday Worship of Our Savior sounds like you spend more time in fellowship with the family of believers after the Services instead of rushing home.

Like I said I never know when to stop once I start commenting on your wonderful experiences in France. Your daily family life you capture in your photos are priceless. Thank you for keeping us connected. I still miss my neighbors, but your blogs keep me excited about your once in a life time experience. It also helps ease the emptiness I feel when I want to walk CHASE with Meghan and one of her many friends or spend time with you Susie.

Joyfully Trusting Jesus,
MJ
