FIRST DAY OF ECOLE!
School started today and Meghan is on her fifteen minute walk to school. Of course Mom is ahead taking the photo. We have decided I would walk with her for the first few days until she feels comfortable doing it on her own. She did not seem anxious at all.
Meghan meets with friends she has met this summer, Solene, Auriane, and Gail. These girls have been very friendly and are helping Meghan learn her French. She is happy to teach them English and it is amazing how well they can communicate even with the language barrier.
On the first day the students gather on the playground awaiting Monsieur Daniel, the Director, to call their name and as each room is called they leave with their teacher to their classroom. There are over 300 students just in Meghan's grade. She is in fifth grade here which is equivalent to our 7th grade at home. For most of her classes, she stays in her home room and the teachers come to them. Seems like a good way to cut down on waisted time moving from class to class.
You can go to the website www.sacrecoeur-vannes.org and click on the translate page for English to learn more about her new school. She will have fun telling the kids back home she is now going to college.
I walked back at noon since it was a half day today to pick Meghan upand will do so until she feels comfortable on her own. As you can see, she is still smiling and had a good first half day of school. Her first homework assignment is to bring two items that are English. She had a tough time narrowing it down to two but has decided to bring the Apples to Apples Game which is a fun game using the English vocabulary. The other item is a Statue of Liberty which was a gift of international friendship from the people of France to the people of the U.S. How appropriate!

Meghan, I thought about you all day on your "first day" and prayed that things would go well. What a great selection for your English Items--fun and a great compliment to the French! I apploaud your wisdom.
